FIFA 12 Short Range Shooting Tips

by Tarik

Hey!

It’s Tarik here and Welcome to the FIFA 12 Shooting Clinic. I want to answer a comment on my website left by Rob who needs help scoring from short range.

I always say practice makes perfect, but there are also a few things to keep in mind when shooting up close.

1. Lay Off the Turbo

Remember to take your hand off the sprint button before you shoot. This will improve accuracy.

2. Feed your Playmakers

If possible, try to use your best shooter to take the shot. For example, If I were playing with Real Madrid, I would automatically be looking for Ronaldo when I get around the penalty area.

He has a higher percentage chance of scoring. His shooting rating is 90. Use that to your advantage.

3. Use the finesse shot

I rarely meet gamers online who use the finesse shot well. Initiate a fineese shot by holding RB for Xbox or R1 for PS3. This adds a nice curling effect to your shot, which could make it harder to save.

4. Create Space using a Fake Shot

The last tip requires using a fake shot. To perform a fake shot, Hold B then Press A for Xbox or Hold O then X for PS3. You can fool your opponent into thinking your shooting, then you often will be all alone in front of goal with a much better angle.

I hope these 4 shooting tips help. Let me know what you think. Peace

All great tips. I do tend to use the fake shot alot just to make room to get a shot off but I don’t hold LT. I just use B and A. Does this make any difference ?

You’re right. It’s just B then A.

Yo Tarik
Good tips as always. I thought I might share with you a small loophole I have found in developing my virtual pro. I want to get him up to speed as soon as possible so i can legitimately put him in the Arsenal squad!
I have been doing a career mode on World Class playing as Bradford in the NPower 2nd division. I was having trouble winning and developing my player as it is taking a bit of time to get used to the new tackling controls.
when I looked at the game settings I could customise player and CPU settings – this allowed me to completely reduce my shot margin error, increase sprint speed, increase shot power, improve keeper and do the exact opposite for the CPU. Needless to say my first game like this I won 24-0 on 4 minute halves! My player was belting them in from virtually anywhere and cracking the volleys away! His stats have jumped considerably as it still tracks all my progress as World Class achievements. It does take a bit of fun out of it but useful if you want to quickly boost your player up so you can use him against your friends.

Stop sliding in the box! Get close to the striker by holding down LT+A (off the ball) and then only when you are close enough using the Stick to move in closer to the ball, use B to tackle instead of X. (Xbox buttons).

If you watch real life football you’ll notice defenders don’t go diving in in the area. They stay on the feet and try to force the attackers wide to narrow the angle.

Great explanation of how to tackle! I’ve been doing the same for the past two weeks and my team now concedes less goals! Before that I used to go diving in the area too!

your really annoying… you dont know anything about FIFA, and i will beat anyone including you at FIFA easily! and why are you annoyed at messi being the highest rated player?? he is the best in the world after all..

Reply

maz October 14, 2011

@Luke: Why are you being so sour. Tarik never claimed to be the best, so yes he is beatable (everyone is) and as for Messi… all he did was complain about giving him the wrong stats (which I totally agree with as FIFA should keep it realistic). Not only Messi… I play with arsenal… and oh dear the stats are really messed up.

So Chill and give him credit for helping us noobs!

Just shut up Luke. If you were as good as you say you are, you wouldn’t have come to this website looking for FIFA tips. In fact, if you are as good as you say you are, stop insulting Tarik for trying to help people out and start helping people out yourself.

Great tips, any advice on how to dribble in the penalty box? I always try to use L1, but maybe I should master elastico chop or something.

Reply

Tarik November 9, 2011

Depends. Pace control works well. Elastico chop will also draw a lot of penalties. Have you tried a simple stepover?

Wac up Tarik and the rest of the gamers. I read your Art of fifa 11 and it helped me improve in certain aspects of the game. I have been playing fifa from 11 and now 12. As I am improving every day I still am having trouble in defending in fifa 12. Currently I just dropped from HTH season 7 to 8 due to my defending. I play on ps3 so if anyone who is willing to help me either with some tips, strategies or we could have some matches which I think would be the most beneficial way to learn. Thanks in advance

Could you give some advice how to defence ball when are you attacking? How to fight arm-to-arm when you have ball?
I know that maybe it is basic tips but I need it to improve my game :)

Okay guys! Tarik here knows a lot about fifa but so do i. So here are some of my own tips of shooting from close range: 1. When 1 on 1 with the GK do not rush on shooting, just let go of the sprint button and tap the shot button as slightly as possible(this results in a slow ground shot that the GK most of the times misses) 2. Whenever shooting the ball, slightly hold down the direction button at the direction of the goal you want the ball to go but don’t hold down the direction for too long as the ball may fly wide off the post. 3. Do not try to fancy the GK by pulling out skill moves unless you are a pro, use the arena to practice getting around the GK with skills if you wish. 4. If you get cornered by multiple defenders, use the skoop turn to fool them and get out of trouble. 5. When sprinting with your winger with a defender shouldering(pushing and pulling from sideways) use the right stick to knock the forward to get past the defender(caution! Defenders with high speed and strength are harder to get past so this will not work against them unless you are Walcott or Bale!)

Hey Safin, do you play on ps3 or Xbox 360. If you are on ps3 do you mind if we play few games. I am having issues with passing the last line of defence especially against better opponents. As soon as I get the ball the defender is russing right at me and the only way to avoid him is to move back towards my side othervise the ball is taken away. Also if you have some defending tips that would be great. Thanks.,…

Shafin January 26, 2012

Hey Emin! I read you. Firstly i am sorry coz i am a pc gamer but i might be able to help with your passing. So this year Fifa 12 has made the passing game slower and having saying that it has become easier to play the passing game.. So before passing all i can tell u is predict.. Never try to pass the ball to someone if other players are standing in between.. Also remember! This year tactical defending has made it’s easier for intercepting passes so predict before passing. Also, if your oppenents are giving you really hard time with passing you might want to check the custom tactics from team management and increase the passing meter.

Shafin January 26, 2012

Emin.. Keep in mind. If your team is good at passing then dont b afraid. Just pass when the time is right. Also sometimes passing backwards is the best choice. You may also use fancy passes by pressing the pass button(A) while holding down the finesse shot button(LB) but do not over use! As for myself i play using Arsenal.. Yes i know! There are other clubs but i am an Arsenal fan so no chance of using other clubs! So what i do in GENERAL, i use the 4-3-3 formation with 4 defenders, 3 midfielders, 2 forward wings and at the centre forward it’s Robin Van Persie(RVP)… Now take this as an example. When i want to play an attacking game i simply use my 4 default players and use the best mids and forwards with the best attacking attributes so i put wilshere, arteta, arshavin on mid and gervinho and walcott on the wings and RVP as the centre forward. My mids have good passing and dribbling skills so i often dribble past players before passing. And my two wingmen are real fast so i use them to carry the ball by the side line and cross it to RVP for the finishing. You see? RVP is a left footer like Messi, Ozil, Di Maria, Silva etc. So have to keep an eye with which foot i am shooting with. But u see? When i am playing with a better team or a better fifa player, i play counter attack.. The only change i make in my squad is put wilshere on the bench and Alex Song as the Defensive Mid because he has better defensive skills than wilshere though is a bit weak at dribbling. So i keep pressure for midfield and when i have the ball, i either give the ball the Walcott, Gervinho or Arshavin and make a counter run but always give the ball to RVP as he increases the chance of scoring by a lot!
