FIFA 10 Shooting Tips Guide

FIFA 12 Shooting Tips Guide

by Tarik on January 2, 2009

Need FIFA 12 shooting help? Everyone experiences shooting problems since there are so many unique scoring situations in this game. It’s easy to forget which type of shot is the best way to score at any given moment.

To help you score more goals, we put together this helpful shooting tips guide covering all the different ways to score goals in FIFA.

Introduction to Shooting

EA Sports introduced a new, more authentic shooting experience. In the past, you could get away with sloppy mechanics, poor shooting form, and an inaccurate power versus speed combination.

Now, you must learn exactly what it takes to put more shots on goal, test the goalkeepers, and score more goals. Let’s get started.

Shooting Basics

Many factors determine the accuracy of the shot such as player momentum, speed, rating, and of course how far you power up the shot meter. There is a direct correlation between shot speed and ball elevation based just on the how much you power up the shot meter. Also keep in mind that your player’s accuracy is greatly diminished if he is on a full sprint while shooting, as well as his lateral momentum at the time.

It’s best to use slow controlled movements when shooting, and to always understand that the further away you are from goal, the more power and accuracy you need to score. Thankfully, there are 3 different shots you can use to score goals.

Tip: A really good tip here is to let go of the sprint button, control your pace to gain composure, get the ball on your player’s dominant foot, and then let it rip.

Finesse Shot Tips & Tutorial

The finesse shot is a more accurate yet less powerful shot than the normal power shot. Finesse shot works best when you are within 25 yards of the goal, and have both time and space to properly aim at the goal. This is a very effective tool to help assist your player in gaining composure while striking the shot.

A direct shot is hit with the boot laces, whereas the finesse shot is usually taken with the side of the foot. At the end, the finesse shot favors accuracy, placement, control, and composure over power and velocity.

How to Do a Finesse Shot

  • Finesse Shot Xbox 360 Controls – Press RB while Holding down B
  • Finesse Shot PS3 Controls – Press R1 while holding down O

Finesse Shot Video Example

Here’s a video on a FIFA gamer scoring a close range finesse shot. Notice how he slows down then finesses the ball into the control with accuracy and control, not power.

Chip Shot Tips & Tutorial

The chip shot is a great shot for scoring 1 vs. 1 chances with the goalkeeper and/or testing the goalkeeper from distance when you find him out of position. Unlike the finesse shot, you strike the underside of the ball to send it high up into the air.

The faster you are running, the more difficult it will be to effectively chip the goalkeeper. I recommend slowly down before performing a chip and focusing on the power bar making sure it’s not more than 3/4 full at any time.

Tip: Pay attention to your radar when you’re on a breakaway. When you see the little goalkeeper dot moving towards you, it’s time to chip the goalkeeper and score a goal!

How to Do a Chip Shot

  • Chip Shot Xbox 360 Controls – Press LB while Holding down B
  • Chip Shot PS3 Controls – Press L1 while holding down O

Chip Shot Video Example

Here’s a video compilation of various chip shot situations that you can learn from. Notice how Duaine makes sure the goalkeeper is off his line before he does a chip shot.

Power Shot Tips & Tutorial

The last shot is the normal shot aka power shot which is a hard driven shot on goal. The best way to do a power shot is to refer to the ball speed/elevation chart above. A good rule of thumb is to never fill up the power bar more than 3/4 full, or you risk putting the ball over the net.

Tip: Double tap the shoot button if you have a bad habit of shooting the ball over the goal. This will prevent you from filling up the power bar too much!

How to Do a Power Shot

  • Power Shot Xbox 360 Controls – Press B while filling up the power bar no more than 3/4
  • Chip Shot PS3 Controls – Press O while filling up the power bar no more than 3/4

Power Shot Video Example

Here’s a video that shows how to do a power shot while dribbling into open space.

How to Manually Aim Your Shot

Now that we’ve covered the basic shots in FIFA 11, let’s dive into how to manually aim your shots. You can choose the direction of your shots based on which way you point the left controller stick. As a general rule of thumb:

  • Moving the stick to the left sends the ball left and adds sidespin
  • Moving the stick to the right sends the ball right and adds sidespin
  • Moving the stick up sends the ball up
  • Moving the stick down sends the ball low along the ground

Another important aspect is which camera view you are using. You need to adjust your shooting aim depending on which camera view. In Pro camera mode, moving the stick to your left means the ball goes left. However, in Tele camera mode, moving the stick to your left actually adds backspin to the shot. Be aware of how the angles in respect to you affect the aiming of your shot.

How to Aim Manually

  • Manual Shot Xbox 360 Controls – Aim Left Stick While Pressing B to add direction and spin
  • Manual Shot PS3 Controls – Aim Left stick while Pressing O to add direction and spin

 Long Shot Tips

The key to scoring long shot is to hold down the Left control stick while filling up the power. This adds topspin to the shot, causing it to dip down and stay on goal.

When attempting long distance shots, remember to press shot first or your player will turn in the other direction if you move the control stick first. Once you press the shot button, your power bar will fill up. Then hold down the control stick to keep the shot goal level.

How to Do Long Shots

  • Long Range Shot Xbox 360 Controls – Press B then aim the left control stick down
  • Long Range Shot PS3 Controls – Press O then aim the left control stick down

Long Range Shot Video Example

Here’s an example of how a gamer keeps his shot at goal level while shooting from distance.

How to Keep Shots on Target

If you’re constantly missing the goal when shooting, then you are probably shooting too hard! Try these few tips:

  • Try shooting within 20-25 yards from goal. This will improve your accuracy.
  • Use the finesse shot more. Be careful online though. You need more time to wind it up.
  • Never fill up the power bar more than 1/2 way.
  • Play with at least 4 star teams only. Players have higher shooting ratings :)

How to Keep Shots Low on the Ground

Still haven’t figured this one out yet? Does anyone know how to keep shots low on the ground consistently? Leave a comment if you know how and I’ll update this section.

Time to Start Practicing Your Shooting Skills!

All you have to do now is start practicing all the new FIFA 10 shooting tips and tricks you learned to see some good results. Don’t try to do everything at once. Start at the practice area and begin to practice your chip shot, finesse shot, power shot, long distance shot, aiming, accuracy, and then take those results to the real game.

David Owen February 10, 2009 at 1:17 am

Thanks this is helpful. Do you have any tips on crossing and heading?

shay May 15, 2009 at 4:44 am

Yeah if you cross cross it in a angle and just use [] to header!

hope this helps

Anonymous221 July 9, 2010 at 2:21 am

dont use the left stick . When the ball is crossed just press the shoot button and the player will automatically head the ball , that is if the defender doesnt muscle you out. Also if you want to be fancy you can direct it using the left stick but it doesnt always work

David Owen March 12, 2009 at 3:34 pm

My friend seems to dribble past me with such ease, yet I cannot seem to get past one man. My final pass to put me in a good position to shoot always seems to go to an opposing player. Do you have any tips on these points? Thanks

suanson June 2, 2010 at 6:08 pm

i say you just work on ur 1 v 1 or you can either chip through ball it

Chris March 23, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Two words… double tap.

There seems to be a pretty sophisticated engine in place when you tap one of the buttons twice in quick succession.

If you hit the “O” button twice quickly, you will get a faster release on the shot and the shot will stay lower to the ground while still maintaining a high velocity. To Generate greater lift hold the button down slightly longer on the second tap.

Additionally, you can use this when a ball is in the air to make your player peform a volley or bike.

Also, tapping “X” twice when a ball comes to you will heel flick to a teammate if one is lined up behind you.

Use the right analog stick to control your first touch.

Nice.

snoOk October 23, 2010 at 5:11 am

yeah that worked very well in fifa 10, but in fifa 11? i don't know, i think they buffed it a little bit

Jim Ross December 19, 2010 at 7:53 am

This is obviously for fifa 10….i thought this is for fifa 11……im confused fifa 11 is different to fifa 10 the gameplay system has changed a little bit and im pretty sure that most of these tips dont work on fifa 11….i say this because ive tried them and they didnt work….so im asking anyone out there got any tips on FIFA 11 SHOOTING…???

Daryl May 23, 2011 at 8:29 am

Fifa 11 – Shooting: Double tapping the 0 button, or even triple tap will keep the ball down, kicking it along the ground at high velocity, as previously mentioned. Press L1+square to cross the ball. This is supposed to be used for early crosses but it can be used alongside the box (it almost always sends the ball straight to the centre of the box). Power accuracy plays a big role in receiving the ball from a cross or lob pass as well…If you apply too much / too little power to the cross or lob pass, the ball will most likely end up in the opposing teams possession – this you will have to practice to get the feel for how much power needs to be applied to get the lob pass or cross the correct distance across the field for the receiving player to receive. i.e. The more accurate you are with your power in crossing or lob passing, the more likely you will get the touch on the ball in a 1v1 battle to receive the ball from the air. FREE KICKS: Hold R1 + Up on left analogue (holding up adds topspin so the ball can dip into goal) and then shoot with 0. If you are just outside the box, only apply quarter power, and slightly more power the further you are away from goal (only thing you can do is practice and practice until you get the feel for power vs distance).

Hope these tips help. Some may seem pretty obvious, but I disticntly remember a time when I didn’t know these things either :)

Nas July 16, 2011 at 12:56 am

This is One way to score accurate n certainly if you hold down the power bar at least 2 bars n hit the left stick fast left nd right its definite goal trust me it will work just dnt power the ball too high.

jazz March 26, 2009 at 1:20 pm

im new to this game – havent played a fifa since 05. when i am one one one with the goalie and try finesse shot, he always gets a hand on it. it is very frustrating. am i not aiming far enough to the sides, shooting too late, what?

admin April 12, 2009 at 4:16 am

David,

you have to work on your defensive positing to stop the guy from running down the field. I can help ya with that.

Tarik Pierce April 12, 2009 at 4:17 am

@ Chris

That's a great tip. YGM.

Tarik Pierce April 12, 2009 at 4:18 am

@ jazz

Depends on if the keeper makes a save or charges the ball. A chip beats a charging keeper; Try adding more power to your finesse shot and aim.

I'll have to get a Controls Guide and share it with you. Hang tight, and I'll get back to you.

Matt Craig May 12, 2009 at 7:43 am

Hey Tarik great tips yet again. Have you got a PS3 aswell or just 360? Just that i might be the first person to batter you ha! My record is Played 496, Won 379 and Lost 85. I like using the tactic of Ultra Defensive as you can still create a vast amount of attacking oppurtunities and concede less too. My winning percentage is 80%, total goals for is 1778 and total goals against is 540. Average goals for is 3.58 whilst average goals against is just 1.18. Finally my cleansheets is a staggering 148. Are these numbers impressive? I'm thinking of becoming a journalist so if you ever need someone to write some articles or other stuff, i'll be more than willing to help out. What's your record on FIFA?

Tarik October 29, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Check my About me page for my record.

George (UK) May 12, 2009 at 11:03 am

Hey mate, thanks for all the newsletters you have sent, they have really been great, you've helped me come along way with your freekick tutorials, I would like more help with corners and heading though!

I need help with my shooting for one reason, I dont play with 5 star teams (I was raised by a cockney, stricly west ham! who are 4 star or 3.5 with ALS) and its extremely difficult (and frustrating) to beat higher teams mainly because all my players are either;

too slow in comparision to ALL the other players (my strikers cant have through balls, my defenders are too slow, bad lob balls, bad passes, bad first touches, bad defending and heading defense due to low ratings, which is quite BIAST in my opinon)

low shooting rating on fifa

high pressure from opposition (strikers chasing my defenders around the keeper box – extremely lame when its Torres, or Ronaldo)

not being able to hold the ball up because of a rating, example, holding Right Trigger makes you hold the ball, this just isnt the case if a player like Gerrard or John Terry, they just instantly lose the ball?

I can most of the time pull a win, or end up turning my xbox off as im so frustrated as the opposition score a fluke ball thats a backpass or their first shot of the game being unmarked just outside the box…

I have started playing as brazil but its such a let down for my gaming experience!

also I can do plenty of skill tricks, score free kicks easily too (with players with stupid ratings!!)

I can mainly score with fitness shots very close to the keeper one on one, and also one on one (if im through) I just rainbow flick over the keeper (if my player can do the trick) – its probably the funniest (and easiest) way to score if you can get past your defence.

anyway, sorry for the rant, I just appreciate your work alot.

if you or anyone on here ever fancy a game, my gamertag is:

blueappless

Tarik Pierce May 13, 2009 at 5:50 am

Haha. Great stuff, especially the rainbow flick over the goalie. You are very bold!

The funny thing is that if you only play with 5 star teams, you never develop the true skills to play very well. If you are skilled, then you can play well with any team.

Heck, I beat Manchester United with DC United 3-1 a few weeks back, and my opponent was so pissed off that he quit!

I'm glad you're enjoying my newsletter and content because I enjoy making it! I can't wait for my programmer to finish the forum, so we all have a unique place to chat, share tips, discuss problems, and have a great time.

Thanks for your wonderful comments and I'll talk to you soon!

-Tarik

Steve May 12, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Some of you can take a look at this manual that's doing the rounds on gaming sites. I d/l'd it just days after I got my 360 and a copy of FIFA and it has helped me out a lot with this game as I haven't played FIFA since the early 2000's.

The game has changed immensely and is very different to PES, which Is what I was playing during my FIFA hiatus.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KF088090

It's basically the EA guide with some extended highlights so to speak.

Tarik May 13, 2009 at 5:51 am

Great guide. I've read this too. It's one of the reason I'm launching the membership site because I want to take screenshots even further. I learn VERY well from watching videos, and I believe others feel the same way.

Thanks again Steve!

Arianarisk May 13, 2009 at 12:54 am

Nice ! :) .. Thanks buddy..

Tarik Pierce May 13, 2009 at 5:38 am

You're welcome!

George May 13, 2009 at 1:02 am

these tips are very effective and a good way to score. However, by pressing the shoot button once it is more of a powerful shot etc how do you do a really powerful shot along the ground? For example when Liverpool played Arsenal n it was 4-4 Torres's goal was smashed low and hard into the corner. is there any way to do this on fifa?

Tarik Pierce May 13, 2009 at 5:39 am

Use the Double tap. So tap the shoot button twice to initiate a hard, low shot. Or you can just tap the shoot button, but you probably developed a habit of shooting above ground so the double tap is a good strategy to use.

Segun May 14, 2009 at 7:20 am

I just want to know if u know of any fifa tournaments people can participate in because i was in the grand finale a couple of months ago but i norrowly missed out on the chance to play in barcelona because I want more experience in playing in tournaments so do u know of any?

Tarik Pierce July 20, 2009 at 10:17 am

There's a website called FIFA leagues which hosts FIFA 09 tournaments on PS3.

Michael May 17, 2009 at 5:02 am

thanks that really helped me out as i want to score alot more goals, however have you got any tips on how to score amazing volleys? Also i amazingly have only ever scored 1 goal from a cross (not a corner and normal (in play) cross into the box) so could you possibly help me on how to direct the ball to a certain person? for example i am an Arsenal supporter and play often with them, not because i support them but they fit my style of play very well. As i cross, i always want to direct the ball to my tallest player in the box, in my case Adebayor. how would i direct it to him precisely? Or even if lets say i have Fabregas just outside the penalty box, how could i direct the ball to his foot to smash a volley?

Deaf_Raiders May 21, 2009 at 1:44 am

Can someone transcript it please, I am Deaf.

xbox 360 LT keeps it low but its best to use when your sprinting

Don March 2, 2010 at 10:39 am

I've recently played against teams on xbox that play with a defensive mentality, a high pressure and couter attacking tactic by using the quick tactics button on the d-pad. I however, do not use any tactics using the d-pad an keep to a normal team mentality. I have struggled to play against players who use this tactic as you hardly get any time on the ball before two men are at your heels. Then when they break away, 3 players are attacking your defense because of the counter attack tactic used and because they're using a defensive mentality they aren't shy of men in defense. Have you got any advice on how to combat this?

Nathan March 6, 2010 at 5:41 am

Hi everyone,

thought maybe someone could help…. what are the buttons I use to execute the 'outside of foot trait'? I unlocked it the other day but can't seem to get any of my players to use it!

Let me know how you all are doing it.

Thanks!

Hi,

Love the site. I have always struggled with free kicks. They always seem to fly over the bar. Same with corners. Headers using B just seem to fly off. I have successfully performed both a couple times. I would like to be able to add these to my arsenal of attacks.

I also just started using Ultimate Team 2010 (Xbox 360) I am looking for some great tutorials. Written preferrably. I'd love help with trading, selling etc.

Thanks

How do you take a good free kick which will impress everyone when it goes in the back of the net? I have tried the power shot from the free kick but it always seems to go over or hit the wall. Any advise how to score them?

adam April 26, 2010 at 5:25 pm

try pressing up on your joy stick and half bar of power when its around 23-30 yards….and try pressing LB/L1 and up on your joy stick and 1 bar of power when its18-22 yards….

junior August 3, 2010 at 12:54 pm

in a free kick hold up and shoot and your shot will dip and to curl the ball as soon as you shoot move and hold the left stick the way you want to curl the ball

Oscar April 8, 2010 at 9:09 am

hey i need help, i would like to know how to avoid others scoring me long range free-kicks because everytime i play online it happens to me?

and how could i make better crosses when i'm going with the ball on the sideline and one of my fowards is one-on-one inside the box against one the defenders?

DJIBRIL140782 April 10, 2010 at 5:50 am

To keep your shot in the grass, IN PS3 I ALWAYS TAP L2 with O so my shots goes always low. I did this 'cause I used to confuse a lot the finese shot R1 with L2.

Oscar May 5, 2010 at 4:47 pm

thanks that was very helpful, i thought that L2 helped to slow down and only and to kick faster when you are just standing up but thanks it worked

Shrey Mehta April 17, 2010 at 11:22 pm

To keep shots low on the ground, press the shoot button twice quickly

For example, if on PC, I want to shoot a low shot, I will press D twice quickly

Hope that helps :-)

Sorry that meaning once I start powering up my long range shot in tele camera mode to I aim toward the goal or away from the goal to keep the more powerful shot down and on target?

How to do a bicycle?

Ihave alot of problems wth that :(

Louz May 20, 2010 at 7:40 am

i have noticed tha my defence is always further up that it should be. i get burned on counter attack by my opponent. second, my defenders always stop when they are in pursuit of a player and i decide to control them. and finally i have notice that some of my oppon ent manage to have 6 of their player in the box to defend and lock me down. while they always seem to be much faster than me in attack. I play with Chesleas, Arsenal and Marseil in FIFA 10 and France in FIFA WORLDCUP 2010.

Any Tips?

eric June 5, 2010 at 1:17 am

an effective method of scoring on a 1 on 1 situation is applying the shot fake on the keeper and then scoring.. when keeper is quite close to you.. press the shoot+pass button while moving the directional left analog stick in a different desired direction.. it is quite easy to learn and within no time you'll be able to beat keepers and move on to score in an empty net.. practice it.. works all the time for me! =D and plus it looks awesome! ;D

Billy June 9, 2010 at 6:39 am

This is a great tutorial, I actually stopped playing this game for a while because I was so frustrated with the shooting. You cleared up a few misconceptions for me and I appreciate it.

I seem to be unable to cross. Even if I barely tap X, the ball seems to sail all the way across the field. How do I cross accurately?

Tarik Pierce October 14, 2010 at 10:34 am

What are your controller settings? Make sure it is on assisted crossing.

azz2themax July 4, 2010 at 12:03 am

thx soooo much im so glad i found this site. Got any tips on free kicks coz i keep hittin them over. thx again

SohhoS July 16, 2010 at 5:42 am

When I play online, i select start game and the other person seems to be changing settings and when I try to go see what the deal is in the settings I only see formation and a couple other items that I dont change like when I get to do that against the computer where I can change how aggressive or safe every aspect of the team works.

When I play the online guys and they take their sweet time tweaking their team I get spanked even worse that normal. Im still lvl 2 after getting FIFA10 when it came out…

I bought the 77 FIFA 10 Tips eBook just now so hopefully that will solve most of my problems but i was curious what the heck these guys were doing to make them so great.

Ethan July 27, 2010 at 10:01 am

Great guide big help, but one great way I score goals that wasn't really added is the like "one-timer." If I have two attacking players in my opponents box when I see the goalie moving up on my first attacker I pass it to the second with a wide open tap in.

Nnamdi July 31, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Do u aim the shot first before shooting or do u aim it and shoot at the same time?

junior August 3, 2010 at 12:49 pm

In fifa 09 if u hold up and shoot you are most likely 100% of scoring.

In fifa 10 if u move your player diagonal and do a finnese shot you r also most likely of scoring, or downn and shoot.

junior August 3, 2010 at 12:55 pm

amzing tips you rock and you helped me alot thnx and do u have any tips on crossing and dive headering

Adam August 27, 2010 at 8:54 pm

Thanks for the guide! Helped me alot because i was never hitting the goal and now i know why.Was not doing finnese shots and chips when i had the chance. But ive still got one problem, I cant dribble past the enemy defenders, i slow down not sprinting and turn away from them for a bit looking for a guy to pass to, then i realise that the enemy defender has probably already gone up the side of the pitch and scored! Anyway, Ive been reading some of your guides and they REALLY help with my problems. Soooo, well done! (You probably found about a millions commas in that speech, i am kinda obsessed XD )

Chris October 12, 2010 at 7:15 pm

I've played Fifa 09 for almost a year and my roommates and I had a lot of fun with it. Recently we just upgraded to Fifa 11 for the PS3 and don't get me wrong the graphics are killer but, obviously some things are really different from Fifa 09. For instance, trying to use a header for a goal is damn near impossible in Fifa 11 and I was a true pimp of the ross header in Fifa 09!! What gives man!! I hit a cross and I press o (just like in Fifa 09) and sometimes my player reacts and sometimes he doesn't. When he does head the ball, there have been a few times where he hits it and the ball goes straight down and bounces right up in the air? I don't get it. Lil' help on how to cross/ and do headers in Fifa 11. Obviously something is different from the 09 version I looked through the manual to no avail . My thanks in advance for all the tips.

Best.

~Chris

It's bad form to get someone to subscribe to your email list with promises of improving their game only to hit them immediately with a sales pitch for your book.

That's how you improve. Do you want to wait 3 months to get my tips by e-mail or spend $10 and improve in less than 1 hour? LOL

FIFA 10 Long Shot Tips.

I like to play on manual settings but no matter how careful i'm with the LS after i take a shot the ball always stray away far from the posts!!

AT October 20, 2010 at 12:30 am

Time and again I've been defending and this happens.

Their Attacker runs down wing WITH BALL, stops and turns towards his own half. His supporting attackers run onwards. The attacker with ball then chips it directly to his player who has run past my defenders.

Firstly, how is this achieved – what kind of pass controls do it. Also how best to defend against.

Kuhok October 20, 2010 at 4:12 am

Even if i open..i wont beg money from my fellow friends for this one.

Lex October 21, 2010 at 4:27 pm

Double tap B for low, hard shots.

(360).

Still haven't managed to get the hang of long shots on 11 yet, though.

Tarik October 22, 2010 at 5:56 pm

Pay attention to the power bar on long shots. I keep it around 3/4s or so. I scored an awesome long range goal so it's definitely possible.

Will October 22, 2010 at 1:48 am

Can you help with be a goalkeeper because i get like 1 chance every game to save a shot and i miss it. Can you give any tips?

Sanin November 10, 2010 at 5:46 am

how can i manually control my goal-keeper? is it possible in fifa 11?

Deko November 21, 2010 at 10:25 am

Thanks a lot. This is great.

Do you have any tips on aiming the shot with directional keys? I’m playing on the PC, and my controller has no analog sticks.

And your “general rule of thumb”, is that for the “tele” cam?

WHUFC HENK November 25, 2010 at 10:38 am

@George

I’m West Ham till I die!
20th on the table my lord.. should’ve won versus blackpool was shouting my lungs out.

Fifa 11 isn’t that hard boys is it, I fail to comprehend why people dont time their tricks as they would in real life football, doing that is going to help you alot; visualize it as a real match and try to predict the spaces real players would use.

Kylie November 26, 2010 at 8:31 am

Hi
I am enjoying the game the only problem I have is when I am in the box and pass an open man and there is defender behind me he keeps getting the ball when he puts hois foot in from behind, does anyone have tips on how to overcome this. I am playing on xbox.

Hung Pham December 13, 2010 at 2:09 pm

cuz that’s how they’re supposed to defend. if you see that just don’t pass but pick another option.

SoundersFan November 28, 2010 at 6:05 pm

I can’t head the ball… at all. Haha. I’m pretty sure its just a timing thing because the ball always sails.

Can anyone help me with this?

Aisar November 30, 2010 at 3:19 am

You just wait the ball down near your striker head (dont too near) and press shoot. This trick i always do and it always working.Just try that….

Louis Khan December 9, 2010 at 7:43 am

I can never get my shots off the ground when one on one with the keeper.
If you dont put to much power and aim for the top corner when on your stronger foot it will nearly always go low and curve. PS. while using Finesse shot !

Hung Pham December 13, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Hey Tarik, and everyone,

Do you know if there is a good tip in fighting in the new 360 fight system? Yesterday I met with this level 29 guy who plays Inter just to cross and head and he’s extremely good at fighting for the ball and heading with Milito. I still managed to win him bo5 but he won me almost everytime in the air …

Thanks.

triple tap the cross button…..

steven January 22, 2011 at 5:36 am

Hellow. I wanted to to ask you, if anyone knows how to cross from right (or left) with the opposite foot. I mean when the player puts his foot behind the other and performs a croos. thank you

George Bates April 2, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Hold L2 or LT and tap the cross button lightly once or twice which ever works best for you. The player must have five star skills though to preform the robana

None Given January 24, 2011 at 5:27 pm

That is a very extensive post on FIFA 11 shooting, well presented and a few lost link but very informative data and vids to boot. Practicing them is the hard part ain’t it.

diskdusk March 21, 2011 at 4:51 am

Is it Fifa 10 or Fifa 11 you’re talking about? It’s all a bit mixed up in the text…

George Bates April 2, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Hi guys just to let you know if you want to start scoring screamers from 45 yards out (like in FIFA 10) then when your just past the halfway line look at your radar if the keeper is off his line make sure your player is facing the goal (sprinting at the time helps) then press nothing else but B or O provided you did everything right and with a bit of luck the keeper will be left standing with the ball in the back of the net. This can be done with everyone above 70 longshots but the higher the rating the more likely they are to score. Remeber nothing but the shoot button take all your fingers off the controller… This also works for putting it into the top corner diagonally from outside the box.

Yashar May 14, 2011 at 8:50 pm

By double tap on O button you will keep your shoot on the ground

Eze June 3, 2011 at 11:57 pm

Hi im Eze, I really need help in defending. To be specific, MARKING the opposition player effectively and winning the ball by out muscling him. I’ve a few friends who win the ball so aggressively that when i try to do the same, the Ref blows 4 a foul. Jeez its so annoying everytime. pls help

Daryl June 6, 2011 at 2:50 am

Hi Eze! Defending is about being intuitive I think. Instead of heading in for a tackle, try marking off your opponents pass options… lead him/her to where YOU want to go on the field. If you see you have more defence and more men in one area of the field, mark off the opponents players on the opposite / more open side of the field, focing him/her to pass straight into the more difficult / densly populated area of the field (slight advantage gained already).
Hold X! If you hold the ‘x’ button (PS3), it will draw your player toward the ball / man on the ball. Once you have approached the player, don’t let go off ‘x’… holding ‘x’ also allows you to put pressure on the player whilst trying to obtain the ball. If you hold ‘o’ button, it will bring in a team mate to assist (not the most effective feature in the game)… but this will also also help put pressure on your opponent and they will most likely end up conceding the ball to you under the pressure.
Don’t bring players forward to tackle if the ball is not in that players immediate field of play, otherwise you’ll be leaving that area open to be exploited by your opponent. Leave your defence in defence until the ball is in the defensive field of play; other than that… let midfield handle an incoming attack.
The L2 Button – When an opponent has the ball, hold L2 whilst running infront or alongside him / her. This will make your player shimmy / sidestep alongside the attacking player, allowing your player to expand their presence next to the ball so that you are more likely to get a touch on it when the opponent passes, allowing for an easy interception. It is not easy to do the sidestep run, but once you get the hang of it, it’ll definitely help you gain an advantage over your opponent.
Hope this helps!

Daryl June 6, 2011 at 3:31 am

Hi Eze,
First and foremost – Don’t slide tackle! It should be called slide interception, if anything. If you’re not on the ball, try not press ‘square’ (PS3). IF you really must slide tackle, then only do it from directly in front of the incoming attacker (in the game, not real life). Other than that, just use it to intercept passes from a safe distance, as not to concede free kicks every time you slide tackle and injure a player. It is a sign of desperation. If you injure another player, it’s even worse and unsportsman-like. And, after you slide in, you’re off your feet and useless to all your team mates. If your opponent is the type that likes to do tricks, I recommend you never slide tackle, because you will only end up conceding a free kick.

Ok, now that that’s out of the way :)

Holding ‘x’ draws your player toward the ball / player on the ball. Hold ‘x’ all the way…it puts pressure on the opponent. This will help especially along the wings when an opponent is coming in for a cross into the box. This will help your play become slightly more aggressive.

If you hold ‘o’, you will bring in another team mate to help (watch the defending tutorial in the game as well). This is can be very effective in putting enough pressure on your team mate to concede the ball, if executed correctly.

Man-marking – Don’t go straight in for a tackle. Instead, mark your opponents passing options. And don’t mark any old player…mark your opponents most convenient options off so that they will be forced to pass the ball into the area YOU want them to pass to. If the top of the field is more populated with your players, mark off the opponents players on the bottom half so that they are forced to pass into your more densly populated area. This puts more pressure on the opponent as the spaces are tighter now.

Don’t bring players out of their respective field of play to tackle the opponent. Eg: Don’t bring a defender up to tackle in midfield, because then that defenders field of play is then left open to be exploited by the opponent. Leave defenders back for the last wave of attack, which you should have already been trying to break down, by holding ‘x’ and putting pressure on the opponent, allowing time for your players to get back and defend. (I usually play with Chelsea and I like to refer to their defensive line as “The Great Wall of Chelsea” when I play, because I keep the wall solid until the attack is in the defensive field of play ;) So, try not bring defence forward unnecessarily.

Hope this helps your game!

gamerr_fifa11 June 11, 2011 at 3:20 am

hey friends! having trouble with heading the ball to score.most often my striker meets my crosses in the opponent D-box bt those headers dont find the back of the net.smbody pls tell me when to press shoot button nd how much power should be loaded.i use LT to overpower the marker.smbody help me pls!!!

Daryl July 20, 2011 at 4:07 am

I usually give about 3/4 power with corner kicks, which drives the ball nicely over the heads of the first layer of defence in the box, giving me more of an opportunity to get a touch on the ball. It also depends on who you have in the box to meet the ball with their head, because some players have cone-heads or something! You need to make sure you have a decent player with header skills in the box. You should only need to press shoot button once to header, but the timing will have to be practiced, along with power. Key is to always try cross the ball to the most convenient place for the player to get a touch on it. Best is if you have a player at the far post when crossing / cornering, aim for him and smack the ball a touch short of full power and it sails right over the goalkeeper, and your player (difficult to mark there) just has to nick the ball in :) There is a previous post from me regarding L1 button when crossing… This gives the cross nice bend for players running up to header. It also gives it nice dip so it comes down after first line of defence in the box, almost like a “finesse cross” :) if executed correctly.

When defending a corner, you need to quickly mark one of your players in the middle of the box, by using right analogue to select a player. It is a more accurate way to select a player when L1 just isn’t cutting it!

Practice makes perfect! No use learning tricks n stuff if you don’t the correct circumstances to use them under.

Point toward the player you need the through ball to reach. L1+traingle is for over-head through ball.. it’s not always accurate. Try tinker with your pass assist settings n stuff, see if that helps you.

How do you do a laces shot on xbox 360?

Daryl August 2, 2011 at 5:22 am

Laces shot: I think you tap shoot button and then hold it down quickly for power. Double tap shooting keeps the ball down. The more power you want, the longer you hold down the shoot button after the first tap. Although, I would also think that a normal shot with high power also results in laces shot (from half power n up), anything less than half power will be normal shot. Haven’t tried or taken note of it as yet, but I’m sure the double tap shot is laces shot.

Daryl August 2, 2011 at 5:30 am

Free kicks: I almost always get awesome dip on the ball and nice power with the following combination of keys for Free Kicks – Hold R1 + Left analogue UP + shoot. Holding the Left analogue Up gives you dip on the ball. R1 I assume is for slight curve / finesse. Just gotta practice the power vs distance to get it spot on. If you’re just outside the box, I’d say give it quarter ->half power, but it depends on the kick taker as well.

Hey I know how to do a low shot, for xbox 360 hold RB + X it doesn’t seem to get off the ground to high. So i think that might/should be it.

Sadat Karimu August 9, 2011 at 2:42 pm

With the low or ground shots what i know is that you should triple tap the shot button in quick succession without delay between any of the three taps else you risk shooting the ball above the ground and out of range or straight to the goalkeeper.

Sadat Karimu August 9, 2011 at 2:44 pm

PS: Thats on the pc version haven’t tried that on any other system.

risakl August 24, 2011 at 10:08 am

i know how to keep shots on the ground. just do a double tap. its useful when on the box line and aiming on the bottom corner like messi does in real games. you got to try it

Does anybody know how to do a Bicycle Kick? Tarik Pierce?

Daryl August 30, 2011 at 3:30 am

Bicycle kick depends on a players skill level / attributes. If the player (most likely to be an attacking forward) is in the ideal position for a bicycle kick, he will pull it off by just shooting at goal. It would probably work best off a volley :)

Daryl August 30, 2011 at 4:05 am

Bicycle kick depends on a players skill attributes. Generally, your attacking forwards would have the bicycle kick skill attribute. An overhead ball from an early cross would probably be easiest to bicycle in..
Too bad they don’t have trainer wheels for this ;P

Thanks Daryl :D

Bicycle kick depends on a players skill level / attributes. If the player (most likely to be an attacking forward) is in the ideal position for a bicycle kick, he will pull it off by just shooting at goal. It would probably work best when the ball comes in overhead on a path toward goal already :)

2 Quick Questions for someone.

1. Every time I break away, and am in front of the defenders, just me and the keeper in the box i shoot and the keeper deflects it. Is there any way to successfully get it around the keeper on these 1 v 1 situations?

2. When shooting from distance do i use the right or left stick to put spin on it? Do i press the stick forward or backward for optimal spin? Thanks!

wildjjbug November 5, 2011 at 6:59 pm

When keeper deflects all your 1v1 situations, then try to curve a bit.
U can curve with the default shot, or whats even better FINESSE shot:D

Sry cant answer your 2nd queestion, im playing on PC..

Daryl February 13, 2012 at 3:16 am

Hey Fifaking11 – you need to press R1 when shooting (Finesse shot). Play with the left analogue for a bit of bend left or right around the goalkeeper. Otherwise double-tap the shoot button (hold down the 2nd tap for power). This shoots the ball along the ground. It works best if your shooting from a diagonal angle and if you’re using your more skilled center forwards.
I’m not sure about topspin and backspin, etc.. with long shots. Only really works with free kicks from outside the box – hold R1 and forward (goal direction) on left analogue, then shoot and ball has major topspin to dip into goal. Obviously all depends on who takes the kick, distance, power, etc…

If you’re struggling to get the ball off an attacker, use R1 / RB to bring in a defender to assist from time to time. The more pressure you put on an attacker, the more they are likely to lose the ball. Don’t just think of the player at hand, but rather think about the entire movement at hand; then you can apply pressure in the right areas at the right times. Watch the opponents players making runs and close them down. Try only give the attacker one passing option at a time, and in this way, try to lead them into high pressure zones. If you’re holding ‘X / A” to chase an attacker the entire game you’re going wrong… let go of the “X / A” button when you’re in open areas, this will give your player more freedom to move and manually get into more defensive positions, rather than holding “x / A” and constantly being drawn to the player on the ball, when he’s got several passing options to choose from. If the attacker hasn’t got options it’ll be really difficult for him to put any kind of pressure on you. This will also help you conserve stamina, as you’re not chasing unecessarily :) This game is freakin’ awesome! Only thing to do now is make it 1080p!

Giancarlo February 17, 2012 at 2:51 pm

I need help. My friend and I play FIFA World Cup 2010, every time I play my team he always chooses a 5-3-2 formation, a very defensive formation, when I lose the ball in his field he shoots it right back into my field straight to his strikers, making my goal keeper to leave the box most of the times leading him to score. He does that thru the whole game and it’s starting to get a little annoying.
Is there a formation that will work to go thru his 5-3-2 formation? Help please!

Just about all of the things you mention happens to be astonishingly accurate and that makes me ponder why I had not looked at this in this light previously. Your article truly did turn the light on for me as far as this specific subject goes. But at this time there is 1 point I am not too comfortable with so whilst I attempt to reconcile that with the actual main idea of your position, let me see just what the rest of the visitors have to point out.Nicely done.
