Improve Your FIFA 10 Shooting Inside the Penalty Box

May I congradulate you on your fifatips website. I have found the videos so far very useful in many aspects in Fifa.
I have a question, mabye a bit of a stupid one, which is about shooting. I find that I can set-up the chances but can’t finish them off. Usually I’m in the penalty box ,say about 15 yards or so, I go for the finnese shot and I point in a direction but my player moves that way even though I’m pressing B to shoot at the same time or he hits the ball a little in the direction I want it to. Do I just need practice or am I doing something wrong or am I just being stupid?

Hey chris,

Thanks for the kinds words about the website. I think your question is very valid, and a lot of other people have the same problem, especially when I play against gamers via Xbox Live.

Practice helps alot, but not if you practice some bad habits. So you want to correct your aiming techniques so you place the finesse shot away from the keeper’s outstretching hands and have a goal.

Your control stick is very sensitive, so you have to be careful when shooting. If you angle the control stick too early, your player will move in that direction, thus affecting your shot. A simple way to prevent this is to work on your timing when shooting inside the box.

Try this: Aim first, pause 1 second then press Shoot.

You may struggle with the power at first, but at least you will correct the habit of rushing your shot before your aim is on target. FIFA 09 is an incredibly advanced game, but you attempting to aim and shoot simultaneously. In fact, I’ve scored goals even when I prepared my aim for several seconds before pressing the shoot button. I still get nervous on breakaways, so I take a little longer than normal to aim into the corners before letting the strike go.

Once your aim improves, then you can adjust the necessary power to put more goals past the goal keeper. Pay attention to the power bar because when you are inside the penalty box, LESS POWER is MORE. It’s better to use less power and get a rebound than too much power that sails over the net.
